Davenport travel tips
Trains from Davenport run to Stockport and Manchester, but
there are
many other travel opportunities available. Many trains also serve
stations to Preston, and in the other direction an hourly
service runs to Buxton in the heart of the Peak District.
This
page is dedicated to encouraging the people of Davenport to make more
use of their trains, by publicising places and events which can be
reached, and telling of the various good-value tickets available.

The Wayfarer Ticket
The
Wayfarer is a 'scratchcard' ticket which can bought from Davenport
station and kept until needed, as you validate it yourself for the day
you need it by scratching off the date in lottery style.
After
9.00 Mondays - Fridays and all day on Weekends and Public Holidays it
gives unlimited travel on virtually any train, tram or bus over a
huge
area encompassing Greater Manchester, The Peak District and rural
areas
of Cheshire and Lancashire.
The
GMPTE
website has a map of the area and much more
information.
Seasons, Traincards and County Cards
For regular commuters there are several options for saving money on
your travel: all of them come in weekly, monthly and annual options.
Annual cards are the best value, being charged at the rate of only 40
times the weekly ticket: some employers have schemes that offer
interest-free loans to purchase one.
A Season Ticket offers
unlimited train travel between the two points on the ticket, 7 days a
week. So a Davenport - Manchester ticket can be use to travel to, from
and between Davenport, Stockport, Heaton Chapel, Levenshulme,
Piccadilly, Oxford Road and Deansgate stations as often as you wish,
and use the trams in the City Centre zone.
A Greater Manchester Traincard
offers unlimited travel 7 days a week between all rail stations in
Greater Manchester
(plus Metrolink in the city zone only and also Disley and New Mills.)
A Greater Manchester County Card
offers unlimited travel 7 days a week between all rail stations in
Greater Manchester
(plus Metrolink in the city zone only and also Disley and New Mills)
and in addition the use of
virtually all bus services. In May 2009 an annual version of this card
costs £900 - but is well worth it if you travel to work in
Manchester or beyond, and also for leisure and shopping, especially if
you don't have
your own car.
The
GMPTE website has up-to-date costs and more information.
